Janmarda – Bush Onion

$400.00

Description

This design pertains to the artist’s father’s country , a rockhole called Mirmindilli, on the South side of Mungurrurrpa (Mongrel Downs). The artist paints the design on to his body during ceremonies. Only men of the artist’s clan paint these symbols. They represent women sitting with their digging sticks and the bush onions they have uncovered and collected to eat. Ronnie’s familiar name, which Warlpiri use when referring to him, is Janmarda, the bush onion. *Cyperus rotundus/bulbosis
