Description
In the Maluiligal language of Zenadh Kes, Kowbu Maril played a very important role in warfare. Warriors in a canoe would call upon their spiritual ancestors for guidance throughout their journey. Each member of a canoe would have their own spiritual figure to protect him. In this print the spiritual figures are hidden above the warriors in the canoe. The rest of the spiritual movements can only be explained in Kala Lagaw Ya (the language of the Wesern Torres Strait).
