Description
This lino cut print tells the story of Water Fairy which is my totem place from my Grandmother’s side. It is said by our elders that two beautiful Aboriginal Water Fairies live at this place, and that it is sacred. Because of this, our people are not allowed to drink the water from this freshwater lagoon. It is said by my elders that if you approach this place very quietly, and the water fairies do not hear you or see you coming, you may be lucky enough to see them sunning themselves on the rocks in the middle of the freshwater lagoon. It is also said by the elders that the water fairies have long, black, wavy hair and wear beaded necklaces around their necks and Horn Shell head-dresses draped around their hairline. In this work you can see one of the water fairies sunning herself in the middle of the lagoon.
