Description

‘This linocut print depicts all the plants and animals found at South Mitchell, which is one of the main river systems in our Kokoberrin Homelands. It is a place families go fishing for catfish, grunter and silver bream and to gather saltwater mussel shells. The fish live in and around the mangrove trees. When we arrive we start a fire and while we are fishing we let the fire burn down to form hot coals. Before we go back to our community we cook up the fish and have something to eat. The small dots at the bottom of this print are representative of the sand that is found in and around our coastline and saltwater systems of South Mitchell. The small dots towards the top of this work are a light shower of rain falling over the mangrove trees.’
