Description

This print depicts a dugong feeding at night, glowing as it comes up to surface. My father taught me to look for this fluorescence when hunting for dugong on a moonless night. As the new moon sets in the western sky, the hunters focus only on the lights ahead of them. The hunting grounds light up as the dugongs feed during the night. Leaving behind them a long trail of Zagu (fluorescent light). As the dugong comes up to surface, the hunter sees the glare of the fluorescent light, showing the hunter the shape of his prey. He then waits patiently until it surfaces, and strikes with his hapoon with great force that sends the darts deep into the flesh.
