Description
The print depicts a Dreaming of a rockhole west of Yuendumu which is shown as the concentric circle. This is an important area where Muliera, or young men’s initiation ceremonies are performed. The artist is a senior custodian of this area and as such he acts as a ‘teacher’ during the initiation. The dotting also represents a plant, ‘Warnulu’, which is crushed and coloured with various ochres and plastered over the participant’s body in keeping with the theme of the ceremony. The background design indicates rejuvenation of plant life after rain.
