Shane Gorry
Shane Gorry remembers his father’s stories of life as a stockmen on North Queensland cattle stations and of joining the clergy to take his family to live in various ministries:
We moved six or seven times before I left home. I was always a new person in town. I’ve learned to adapt. Now I explore my heritage through art, though I do not use traditional images. It wouldn’t be respectful to other people if I used images that don’t mean anything to me personally.
Shane has exhibited in Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra and was part of the 1991 Outback Images tour of the United States. He is currently studying for a Diploma of Applied Science in Broadcasting and Journalism at Batchelor College, NT, and works at an Aboriginal community radio group in Cairns.
