Jeanette Timbery
The artist was born in 1941 and has lived all her life at La Perouse or Gooriwal as it was known prior to the arrival of white people to Australia. La Perouse is one of the most historic places in Australia and is named after the French explorer who landed there only days following Captain James Cook arrival in Botany Bay in April 1770. La Perouse has been home to Aboriginal people for thousands of years and it was Jeanette’s ancestors who were among the first Aboriginal people to come into contact with white explorers and settlers. Jeanette is a well known Aboriginal artist whose work often depicts the fauna, flora and events associated with her country and people.
