Description
A rock formation in the shape of a turtle, similar to the one depicted in the print, can be seen on a hill on the artist’s Island of Badu.
Its relevance is not exactly clear to the Badu Island people but it is thought to be related to initiation ceremonies.
Further meaning has been added to the image by the lines within the turtle that shows how a turtle was butchered. Feasting on turtle meat would have been a part of such a ceremony.
