Description
It’s about this dog – it’s not a customary belief but it happens. I’ve experienced this – Airka is for the rain, that’s how it translates. Sometimes on the island when you see the dog, in the hot sun the dog will come. He will lay on his back in front of you and he’ll scratch. Then it just sits under you, it opens its legs and it just lays like this. Then you know that next week, or three or four days time the rain will come. No clouds but he will tell you that there is rain coming. So on that particular artwork I’ve got all these frogs on his tummy. That one, the Umai Umai is the dog. He will tell you there’s rain coming in two days’ time – prepare yourself. I’ve put the frogs up here and I did some patterning symbolising the rain. The frogs are tickling the dogs tummy.
