Description
With characteristic simplicity, Beerbee depicts the place know to him as Badaba Billabong. On old Argyle cattle station it was a good spot to make a night camp while droving cattle from Rosewood Station to the port and meat processing facility at Wyndham some 100 miles to the Northwest. According to Beerbee the the permanent waterhole (depicted at the bottom of the work in the grey charcoal and clay mix) with its shade and yards was the best camp on the old stock route. Since the damming of the Ord River in the 1960s the area is now at the bottom of Lake Argyle, the largest body of water in Australia.
