Carolyn Lockhart

Carolyn Lockhart is a contemporary Australian artist who works mainly in oils building her vibrant paintings with layer upon layer of intense colour.

She takes her inspiration from nature and by abstracting the forms strives to capture the essence of her subjects.

She paints wild landscapes, gardens and the everyday things that bring her joy: flowers, fruit, vegetables and food on a plate.

Carolyn trained at the National Art School and worked as a graphic designer in Sydney before moving to London to pursue a creative career in fashion, food and journalism.

“Four years living in Mexico were truly inspirational” Carolyn says. “Here I learned to be confident with colour and revelled in the Mexican traditions where the use of colour is so bold and totally instinctive.”

Returning to Australia with her family in the 1970’s she joined Vogue Australia and became the founding editor of Vogue Entertaining+Travel.

In 1990 she joined ACP to edit, re-design and re-launch Australian Gourmet Traveller.

Carolyn still travels widely to write about art, gardens, food and travel for select magazines, but now devotes much of her time to her art practice.
