Joel Ngallametta is a senior Kungu elder of the Wanam ceremonial group from Aurukun in western Cape York. He is a song man, dancer and singer, skills that were passed down to him by his father.

The artist is also an accomplished carver and well known for his Thapu yongk law poles. A group of these distinguished sculptures can be seen at Cairns Airport. He has exhibited throughout Australia and internationally.
