Description

Baidam Thithuyil the great Shark Constellation commonly known as Pleiades, or the Seven Sisters, is a series of seven stars that appear in the night sky above Papua New Guinea in the shape of a shark. They first appear in April and move across the skies, taking up a number of positions until the mouth of the shark touches the horizon, Baidam Bupur Nanami, bringing with it thunder and lightning, the onset of the monsoon season, then disappearing in September. During these months this major star constellation influences land, sea and air environments that then influence social and seasonal changes for the people of Zenadh Kes. Following the disappearance of Baidam Thithuyil the stars of Tagai emerge.
