Mary Shackman

I have been painting full time since 1990 and have had 18 solo exhibitions. Before that I concentrated on textile design and produced a limited fashion range from the time when I left the National Art School, Darlinghurst in 1963. My main thrust remains my paintings. I interpret the patterns I see underlying everything I see around me. Sometimes my work will be more free form drawn from inter-stellar space, themed from nature or social comment but mainly it is pattern and colour. Some people say my current work harks back to the 60’s psychedelic pop and geometrics but it is all new and fresh to me. Painting links me to my inner self and gives relevance to my life, which thankfully is well balanced with family and social interests. I enjoy my life.
